The Tour Without a Throne
As Pierre Poilievre travels through Europe meeting officials and posing for diplomatic photos, the trip raises an obvious question in Ottawa: who exactly is he representing? As leader of the opposition, Poilievre holds no governing authority and speaks for no government. Yet the optics of the tour appear carefully designed to project the image of a prime minister in waiting. Critics say the effort risks looking more like political theatre than diplomacy, a campaign-style attempt to appear statesmanlike at a moment when domestic political pressure is mounting. The performance may be confident, but the reality remains unchanged. Until Canadians vote, the role he seems eager to inhabit simply does not belong to him.
